Lifestyle | My New Year's Resolutions/Goals for 2015

Happy New Year everyone, welcome to 2015 and to the new look Beauty Blogging Brunette! I took the blog down towards the end of last year to give it a bit of a spruce up and bring it back with my recaptured passion for blogging.

I'm the type of person who works best with a goal in mind be it find a dress for my birthday, save for a holiday or undertake this project to be in better standing for something bigger - whatever the goal, just having one helps me.

If you're anything like me you'll be reading this post with quite the sore head so grab some comfort food (one day cheating doesn't count!), a good cup of tea and let me take you through the five goals I've set for myself this year and look back at the five I set last year, you can find that post here.

1. Take better care of myself
The most standard of all New Year's Resolutions but one I simply must follow. In 2014 I drank too much, I ate too much, I worked out too little and I didn't get half as much sleep as I needed to and that needs to stop. After being forced out of the 10k I was so excited to run through injury and with a pretty tough few months behind me, I threw myself into socialising and everything that goes with it - the often endless nights out, the excessive alcohol consumption and then to mop it up, a mountain of unhealthy food. This year my body and I will get back to some sort of balance - I'll do whatever limited exercise I can with a dodgy knee and shoulder and eating healthily and drinking less are my main priority.

2. Start budgeting again
I'm 25 this year and nothing says "you're growing up" quite like the need to suddenly have money saved away for a house deposit and holidays. Whilst it will be very much baby steps, I need to stop spending money like water and actually start to behave like a responsible adult.

3. Stay on track with blogging
I was so disappointed when I lost interest in my blog last year and I am determined to make up for it this year. Don't get me wrong, I had a great time (see point 1!) but I missed having my creative outlet and my own little sanctuary as well as missing the beauty blogging community on the whole. This year I plan to be a lot more organised - I am actually going to plan my blogging and my blog posts instead of winging it which really doesn't work for someone who is such a control freak; I received a new camera for Christmas so I will be taking more pride and enjoyment in the appearance aspect of blogging and I will be moving to a dot com address!

I also realised in the break I took from blogging that whilst beauty is still something I am very passionate about, I'm going to incorporate other things into my blog and maybe even some of my personal life which has previously only been limited to birthday celebrations! I am fortunate enough to know some wonderful souls and experience some incredible events that I would like to share with you all. I think I'm now fully aware of the audience I appeal to and I just hope I can do them justice this year.

4. Join YouTube
Yes, that's right. By the end of the year I want to have made at least one YouTube video - maybe it will surprise me and I'll love it; maybe I won't. Either way it is something I am very keen to try so watch this space. If there's anything in particular you would like to see me try - please let me know.

5. Take a break!
Having used most of my holiday in January last year to go to Australia I spent most of 2014 sulking that I didn't have any time off. It was incredibly draining and not something I'm keen to repeat so I will be spreading my time off this year to ensure I can have some lovely holidays but also some great weekends in and around the UK. I have friends all across the north of England that I plan on visiting for long weekends and I'll be heading to Dublin in March for the 6 Nations which I am beyond excited about. Taking time out is vital if you don't want to burn out and I plan to take as much time as possible this year!

2014 was a pretty tough year for me, the highs were incredibly high and the lows were very low and for once, there was very little in-between. Going from flying to crashing in such a short space of time and then doing it over and over again certainly took it's toll!

Here's how I got on with last years goals!

1. Take time to make time
With the exception of the fact I lived an incredibly unhealthy lifestyle this year, I feel as though, reading back over last years post and how I defined this, that I definitely achieved it.

2. Look after Number One
Again, I let the health part slide but I made decisions which ensured I looked after myself and my own interests first and they were some of the hardest decisions I've ever made but as the old saying goes: everything will be okay in the end; if it's not okay, it's not the end, and it couldn't be more true. It's easy to be so blinded by what you want to see in a person that you don't see what is actually in front of you until it's too late. Either way, it will hurt but you will be fine.

3. Pass my work qualification
I passed this in June and couldn't have been more pleased with myself. After landing another promotion which comes into effect this month, I need something new to work towards work wise!

4. Take a flower arranging class
This one hasn't come to fruition yet simply because the class I wanted to attend was fully booked last year but I am signed up for the day in March and I cannot wait.

5. Read more - at least one new book a month
This one I passed with flying colours thanks to my Kindle. During the summer I was getting through two books a week, some I'd read before and others were new. I've always been a quick reader and unlike people who plough through a book but fail to take anything in, I absorb everything. Reading became an escape for me this year when things got tough in the summer and I couldn't be happier that it did. I will definitely continue on with my reading this year. To read is to learn and you're never too old to learn.

What are your goals and resolutions for 2015?

  3. Love your new look! I'm wanting to revamp my blog soon too. Yours looks fab :)

I am also looking at eating healthier and drinking less this year. I'm just so sick of wasting money on mediocre nights out and waking up the next day with a hangover from hell and then eating like a pig to help me out!!

Good luck with your resolutions :) I look forward to your YT vids!! xx

    1. Thank you doll, I'd been looking for something like it for ages! Etsy have some really good pre-made templates quite reasonably priced if you're looking.

I think healthy eating and cutting down on alcohol has to be a must this year, it's great fun at the time but I feel awful in myself after! Let me know how you get on, I'm always looking for inspiration myself!

Thank you! I'm excited to try it and now I've said it out loud I have to do it! Xx

  5. Loved this post lovely, agreed with so many of your goals (a lot are goals of mine too). Apart from joining Youtube, my south east london accent is far too common to have to listen back to when editing ;)
